Ralph V. Boccia, MD, FACP
Ralph V. Boccia, MD, FACPRalph V. Boccia, MD, FACP, is Medical Director of the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders in Bethesda, Maryland, and Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Georgetown University in Washington. He serves as the Chief Medical Officer for the International Oncology Network (ION). Dr. Boccia completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He then did a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology, and Bone Marrow Transplant at UCLA and the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center, and was then recruited to the Medicine Branch at the National Institutes of Health’s National Cancer Center in Bethesda.
Dr. Boccia is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians(ACP) and a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology(ASCO), American Society of Hematology(ASH), and Multinational Association for Supportive Care in Cancer(MASCC). He is on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Hematology & Oncology and Oncology and Biotech News. Dr. Boccia has authored or coauthored numerous articles published in such peer-reviewed journals as the Journal of Clinical Oncology, British Journal of Haematology, New England Journal of Medicine, Cancer, Oncologist, Blood, and Clinical Colorectal Cancer, amongst others. He has been voted to Top Doctors in America, and Best Doctors in Washington, DC since 2002.
James Bussel, MD
James Bussel, MDRalph V. Boccia, MD, FACP, is Medical Director of the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders in Bethesda, Maryland, and Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Georgetown University in Washington. He serves as the Chief Medical Officer for the International Oncology Network (ION). Dr. Boccia has research and patient-care interest in patients with ITP and he has been a principal investigator in the development of ITP drugs. Dr. Boccia has authored or coauthored numerous articles in top tier peer-reviewed journals and is on the editorial board of multiple journals. James Bussel, MD is the Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics and Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City. He spent his entire career focused on ITP. He worked on development of new ITP treatments and have had an integral role in the licensing of IVIG, IV anti-D, anti-CD20, and thrombopoietin receptor agonists. He has many publications on these agents and other topics related to ITP and collaborations around the world.
He was trained in pediatrics but he sees more adults than children with ITP; in addition to his primary appointment in Pediatrics, he has secondary appointments in OB-GYN and Medicine.
